Staying at a host family in England 2025

A report by Christa, Klara, Annegret (year 11)

During our stay in England, we were very lucky to be hosted by such a wonderful family. As they welcomed us warmly and loving we knew, we were in good hands. In this report, we would like to share our experiences about living in a host family like ours.
As a little input we want to name the members of the family. We start off with Victoria and Scott Dean, who were our host parents for the week. A heart-warming fact about them is how they first met in London. As Scott was born in London and is still working there, they got to know each other in his hometown. He decided to leave it and moved to Hastings, where Victoria was born. He made this big decision out of love and because of London as an exhausting city. After they built a life together in Hastings, they had two adorable children, Maya and Finlay. Maya is 6 years old and Finlay is 11 years old. So both of them are already in school and offered us the possibility to experience the school uniforms in real life. Since Finlay reached an age, in which he prefers to spend time with his friend or in his room, we only got a glimpse of him, whereas Maya was the complete opposite of him.cat.jpg

We can describe her in three words: crazy (as her parents would probably say), extroverted and kind. She made us feel familiar by immediately hugging us at the beginning. As a sign of how grateful we were, we brought Maya some hair ties and Finlay a box of brownies. Both of them appreciated the present and Maya gave us one of her self-made clay figures as a sign of being thankful.
Besides the human beings we also got to know the pets of the family. Arlo, a very fluffy and cuddle-loving dog and Archie, an old cat always welcomed us when we came home.
When we arrived at their home in Hastings, Victoria lead us around the house and showed us our bedroom which was located in the garden. You probably can’t imagine this scenery but in a nutshell you can compare it to a German winter garden. On the one hand, a positive aspect about our sleeping place was that they offered us the privacy we needed but on the other hand Victoria often repeated that their home is our home and we should feel free to reach out for them. Our lunch packages were made with love and filled our stomachs until the next meal. Also the meals we had at home were very outstanding. The food they offered us was more than enough. We liked the kitchen interior very much, because you could see the effort they put in there. Also, you had a spectacular view over the town out of the window and their whole house was furnished cosily.
All in all we had a wonderful time with our host family and we could not have imagined a better one. We hope you enjoyed our report!

Ein kleines Englischprojekt

In our English classes we talked and learnt about different countries from all over the world. It was our job to create a travel podcast about one very special destination that we would love travelling to. So I have decided to report about Norway. If you want to learn about the beautiful country from Scandinavia feel free to listen to my podcast and maybe you get encouraged to plan your next journey to the mesmerizing north of Europe.
